July 26, 2021: First floor Framework

On Monday, July 26, 2021, Luis and his helper started on the framework for the first floor walls.

By Tuesday morning, July 27, 2021, my husband walked up to our home and his garage gym from side street parking to the top photo at 9:15am.

The middle photo was taken at 10:30am; we almost have the framework for all the walls of the of the new first floor family room addition! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

The final photo was taken Tuesday July 27, 2021 at 4:45pm showing enclosed walls! I’m getting super excited over here!

On Wednesday July 28, 2021, Luis repaired some issues with the existing home’s framework, so that the new framework could be tied to the original framework. Headers were also placed in preparation for a second floor! I can’t wait! 🤗

First Half of July 2021: The Foundation

On Monday July 5, 2021 (what should’ve been the observed holiday for the 4th of July), workers showed up to remove the wood forms for the footing and backfilled with gravel.

It continued to rain on and off. On Thursday July 8th, 2021, workers started to assemble the forms for the foundation walls. This included rebar and pins.

On Friday, June 9, 2021, we passed village inspection for the foundation pre-pour. But once again, we waited on rain and for drier conditions to pour the concrete walls.

On Tuesday, July 13th, 2021, after some close calls with the weather and being able to book the concrete mixing truck, we were finally able to pour the walls for the basement crawl foundation of our two story addition.

After 24 hours, Luis, our lead man, and his second hand man, returned to remove the forms. This is so exciting to have something vertical!

Unfortunately, we were warned and aware that our driveway might get damaged in the process of this project. We’re surprised it didn’t happen sooner during the excavation for the basement waterproofing. It ultimately was the concrete truck that did it. It had rained too much, and the substructure beneath the driveway was too soft, and it couldn’t withstand the weight of the concrete mixing truck. It completely cracked the driveway. On the bright side: this house is going to look brand new with all new siding and a new driveway 😅
